KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Toledo men's tennis team compiled a 16-4 record against its Mid-American Conference opponents at the annual MAC Indoors in Kalamazoo, Mich. over the weekend. Senior
Pawit Sornlaksup, senior
Marko Galic, and freshman
Charlie Snow all went undefeated to win their respective singles flights. Sornlaksup and Galic also captured first place in the No. 1 doubles flight.
"We had a solid weekend considering we went in shorthanded due to injuries, which created a 'next man up' opportunity," head coach
Al Wermer said. "The guys brought gritty responses, including
Marko Galic and two of our freshmen,
Charlie Snow and
Poonthong Komolpisut. And although
Pawit Sornlaksup didn't surprise anyone, he continues improving and dominating the MAC."
Defending MAC Player of the Year Sornlaksup won the Flight 1 Singles with an undefeated record for the second straight season. He defeated Northern Illinois' Mikael Vollbach in two sets, Western Michigan's Ben George in a come-from-behind three-set decision, and finally Western Michigan's Anton Arzhankin in two sets. Sornlaksup has not lost a conference match since joining the Rockets' program prior to the 2021-22 season.
Galic also went 3-0 to win the Flight 2 Singles. He took down Northern Illinois and Western Michigan in two sets, before winning a three-set final over Northern Illinois for the title.
Sornlaksup and Galic teamed up for the Flight 1 Doubles, defeating Ball State, Northern Illinois, and the MAC's newest member UIC for the flight title.
Snow had a big performance over the weekend, going 3-0 in his first conference competition. Snow had a tough three-set comeback victory over Buffalo's Yuhan Jiang, then defeated Western Michigan's Ferdinand Schlueter and Dimitri Moriarty in two sets to win the Flight 5 Singles bracket. Snow and freshman
Poonthong Komolpisut went 1-2 in the Flight 2 doubles bracket.
UT's final tournament this fall will be the M25 ITF Future Tour in Columbus, Ohio on Sunday-Thursday, Nov. 12-16.
