Freshman Leah Evans wins 200 butterfly and senior Madison Giglio captures 3M diving
AKRON, Ohio – The Toledo women's swimming & diving team was defeated by a 197-86 margin by defending Mid-American Conference champion Akron on Friday evening in both team's first conference dual meet of the season.
Freshman Leah Evans won the 200 butterfly for the second-straight meet, clocking a time of 2:19.73 in the Rockets' first long course meet of the year. Evans also took runner-up in the 100 butterfly and third in the 100 freestyle. Senior diver Madison Giglio claimed a first-place finish on the 3M board with a score of 261.08 and a runner-up finish on the 1M board.
In addition to Evans' and Giglio's event win, the Rockets produced seven runner-up finishes. Senior Kennedy Lovell touched the wall at 58.78 in the 100 freestyle, nearly a second off the Toledo record (57.52) set by Leah Woodard in 2007.
Toledo will be back in the pool for its first home meet on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 11:00 a.m. in its Battle of I-75 matchup vs. Bowling Green at the UT Student Recreation Center Pool.
