Rockets and Oilers to tip off at 4:00 p.m. in Croy Gymnasium
TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo men's basketball team will play its final exhibition game prior to the start of 2023-24 campaign when it visits the University of Findlay on Sunday, Oct. 29. The contest vs. the Oilers will tip off at 4:00 p.m. at the Croy Physical Education Center. Tickets are $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for students. All proceeds for the game will go to the American Red Cross to support the recovery efforts of those impacted by the Maui Wildfires this summer.
The Rockets received their first taste of outside competition last Saturday in a 93-62 exhibition victory over Ferris State in Savage Arena. Junior Dante Maddox Jr. led UT with 19 points, while junior Tyler Cochran scored 10 points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. Also scoring in double digits were redshirt freshman Javan Simmons (13 pts.), junior André Lorentsson (12 pts.), and junior Ben Wight (10 pts.).
"We played a lot of guys against Ferris State and saw some of the things that we need to work on," Head Coach Tod Kowalczyk said. "We're still trying to figure out our rotations and see what are the best combinations we can put on the floor."
Â
The Rockets will be visiting Findlay for the fifth time in the last seven years. Toledo rallied from a 16-point first-half deficit last year en route to a 100-88 victory. UT also posted single-digit wins over the Oilers in 2019 (75-68) and 2022 (83-78) after dropping an 89-86 decision in 2017.
"We have learned a lot about our teams in the past by playing at Findlay and I expect it to be a similar experience for us on Sunday," Kowalczyk said. "Findlay's fans get on us, and it really goes a long way to helping us get ready for our season. Their gym is a great atmosphere to play a game in, and I encourage our fans to go if they haven't been there for a game."
Toledo opens its regular season vs. Detroit Mercy on Monday, Nov. 6 in Savage Arena.Â
