BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Toledo women's volleyball team (5-3) opened play at the Holiday Inn-University Plaza Invitational on Friday and split a pair of matches. The Rockets swept Northern Kentucky to start the day before falling to No. 21 Western Kentucky in three sets.
Â
Toledo hit .320 in its convincing win over the Norse and held its opponent to a .069 attack percentage. Junior Taylor Alt led the charge offensively, tallying a match-high 11 kills. Junior Jada Bouyer was outstanding, hitting .500 and adding eight terminations, while senior Sina Uluave added nine kills and hit .33 to help the cause. Junior Payton Morman collected 29 assists and senior Ryann Jaqua recorded a match-best 17 digs. The Rockets dominated their first match of the day, never trailing at any point in the second or third sets.
Â
The second match of the day against the nationally-ranked Hilltoppers was a different story, as WKU hit. 383 and held UT to a .042 attack percentage. Alt and senior Rhyenne Filisi tied for the team lead with seven kills and Filisi also led the Rockets with three blocks.

1st set (25-20, Toledo)
NKU scored the first two points of the match before Toledo answered back with four straight points to make it 4-2. The Norse responded with five straight points to put UT in a 7-4 hole, but the Rockets took the lead for good with a 10-1 run that put the score at 14-8. Not only did Toledo not trail for the remainder of the first set, it would not trail for the rest of the match. Bouyer provided the clinching point in the 25-20 first set victory.
Â
2nd Set (25-15, Toledo)
Senior Olivia Vance started the second set with a kill that began a 9-2 Toledo run. Northern Kentucky never seriously challenged UT in the second set, and the Rockets would go on to win 25-15 to take a 2-0 lead in the match. Alt, Filisi, and Uluave all had three kills in the second set and Vance contributed two.Â
Â
3rd Set (25-17, Toledo)
Toledo took an early 5-1 lead and didn't look back. With the score at 7-4, Alt started a stretch of five straight UT kills with Bouyer, Filisi (twice), and Uluave following suit. The Rockets hit .387 in the third set, their highest of the match, and cruised to a 25-17 win to complete the three-set sweep. Bouyer and Uluave were both excellent, tallying four kills apiece to help the Rockets seal the deal against the Norse.

1st set (25-16, Western Kentucky)
The Hilltoppers never trailed in the first set, jumping out to an 8-3 lead and continuing to build on their advantage from there. Vance tallied a team-high three kills in the first set, but WKU would go on to win 25-16 to start the match with a 1-0 lead.
Â
2nd Set (25-14, Western Kentucky)
Once again, Western Kentucky used an early lead to grab the momentum and didn't let up at all in the second set. WKU jumped out to a 13-6 lead and led by as many as 11 at one point. Â
3rd Set (25-15, Western Kentucky)
Toledo kept up with Western Kentucky in the third set as well as it had all night, with a kill from Bouyer putting UT within a point at 10-9.
