TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo men's and women's cross country teams return to the field this weekend after two weeks off in preparation for Notre Dame's Joe Piane Invitational on Friday, Sept. 30 at the Burke Golf Course in South Bend, Ind. The women will run in the Blue Race 5K at 10:30 a.m. and five will run in the Open Division 5K at noon. The men will send a handful to participate in the 5-mile Open Division at 12:45 p.m., while the rest of the team stays back to train for Wisconsin.
The last time Toledo competed was at Indiana State's John McNichols Invitational on Sept. 16. Both the men's and women's team finished runner up in their respective races. Sophomore Dennis Mutai won the men's 8K, his first individual win as a Rocket, and received Mid-American Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week recognition. Senior Faith Linga finished second overall and first for the women's team in the 5K in her first race of the season.
Toledo had a combined eight new personal-record times set in Terre Haute, Ind.
In this week's United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), the Toledo men remained in the No. 9 position and the women stayed in the No. 6 position in the Great Lakes Region. At the national level, the women's team has received votes in each of the last four weeks.
This weekend's host, Notre Dame, is nationally ranked No. 8 on the women's side and No. 14 on the men's side.
