Women's Tennis Begins Fall Season With Rocket Invite

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's tennis team will open the fall portion of its 2022-23 season with the Toledo Rocket Invite, featuring DePaul, UIC, and the University of Chicago. The four teams will all match up in doubles and singles matches on Friday-Saturday, Sept. 23-24 at the UT Varsity Tennis Courts.
The Rockets will see the Blue Demons and the Flames again during the spring for dual matches the second week of February.
"The team is excited to start competing this weekend," said head coach Tracy Mauntler, now entering her 20th season, said. "The fall is a great time to figure out what we need to work on."
Toledo returns six of eight student-athletes from last year's 2022 Mid-American Conference Championship runner-up squad. The Rockets had their best finish in program history, compiling an 18-7 record with a 7-3 mark in MAC play, and received its first-ever team and singles player Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) 2022 Collegiate Tennis Division 1 Women's Regional Rankings. In the Midwest region, the Rockets were ranked No. 8 as a team while 2022 MAC Player of the Year and first-team All-MAC honoree Cassie Alcala was ranked No. 12 as an individual.
Also returning to the court this weekend are first-team All-MAC honoree Sloane Teske, and Academic All-MAC honorees Laura Morera and Shalini Tallamraju. Transfer Mariona Perez will make her first appearance this weekend in a Rockets uniform as well.
