TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's tennis team will start the new season looking to maintain the momentum from last spring when the Rockets made it to the finals of the Mid-American Conference Championship. The 2022-23 schedule will feature two home tournaments in the fall and nine home matches in the spring.

Highlighting the schedule are non-conference home matches with Michigan State and Army West Point in January, as well as road matches at Purdue, USF and DePaul. MAC dual-meet play begins in March.

"This is definitely the most challenging schedule we've had while I've been at Toledo," said Head Coach Tracy Mauntler. "The MAC has gotten so strong and it's important that we are battle tested by mid-March. I'm really looking forward to our kickoff weekend with Michigan State and West Point both coming to Toledo. This schedule will definitely push everyone on the team."

Mauntler, entering her 20th season at the helm, returns six of the Rockets' eight players from the 2021-22 team. The Rockets' lineup will be led by 2022 MAC Player of the Year Cassie Alcala. A junior, Alcala earned first-team All-MAC accolades in 2022-22, while senior Sloane Teske was named second-team All-MAC and joined on the MAC All-Tournament Team by junior Shalini Tallamraju. Other returners include graduate student Christina Fuller, senior Laura Morera, and junior Julia Kuszynski.

The Rockets will begin the fall portion of the schedule with their annual Rocket Invitational on Friday-Saturday, Sept. 23-24 with visitors UIC, DePaul and the University of Chicago. A select group of four Rockets will participate in the Michigan State Invitational (Sept. 30-Oct. 2) in East Lansing, while another group of four will compete at the ITA Regionals (Oct. 20-23) in Ann Arbor. The final fall tournament will be the Indoor Rocket Invitational with Cleveland State, Bowling Green, and Youngstown State competing at at Twos Athletic Club on Friday-Saturday, Oct. 28 and 29.

The non-conference schedule resumes in January with three consecutive home matches vs. Army West Point (Jan. 14), Michigan State (Jan. 15) and Cleveland State (Jan. 22). The Rockets will close out the month on the road, visiting Youngstown State (Jan. 27) and Duquesne (Jan. 28). The Rockets will play host to Oakland on Saturday, Feb. 4 before setting off on the road for the final six non-conference matches. Toledo will visit UIC, DePaul, and Purdue before heading to Florida for its spring break trip. In Tampa, Toledo will play Louisiana Tech and USF, and then stop by Fort Myers to play Florida Gulf Coast.

Mid-American Conference play starts on Friday, March 19 at home vs. Eastern Michigan. Toledo will play West Division teams Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois, Ball State and Western Michigan once, while opposing East Division teams Buffalo, Bowling Green, and Miami twice.

The MAC Championships are scheduled to take place in Muncie, Ind. on Saturday-Sunday, April 29-30.
