Toledo welcomes incoming five recruits for 2022 season.

Men’s Cross Country Welcomes 2022-23 Recruiting Class

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo men's cross country team will welcome five distance runners this 2022 season, including transfers Charles Kipchumba from Eastern Kentucky and Dennis Mutai from Garden City CC.

"I am really excited about our incoming class for the men's program," associate head cross country and track & field coach Nick Stenuf said. "We are returning all but one runner from last year's team which finished second at the MAC Championships. The emphasis on this class was to pick up some immediate impact runners, and that is exactly what we did. While it is not a big class by any means, it is one that packs a punch."

The following is a look at the 2022-23 recruiting class:

Avery Casillas | Holgate, Ohio | Holgate H.S.
Casillas was a varsity cross country and track & field runner for four years, a varsity basketball player for two years, and was named All-Academic Ohio during his senior year.

Eric Hollar | Toledo, Ohio | Sylvania Southview H.S.
Hollar was a three-time first-team all-district and all-region honoree in the 800m. In cross country, Hollar qualified for state and as a freshman was named Runner of the Year. In track & field, Hollar was an NLL 800m champion.

Charles Kipchumba | Eldoret, Kenya | Eastern Kentucky
Kipchumba is a transfer from EKU, where he ran cross country and competed in track & field. Kipchumba collected second team All-OVC honors after finishing 13th at the 2021 OVC Cross Country Championships. His performance helped the Colonels to a runner-up finish at the meet. He scored points with a sixth-place finish in the 10,000 meters at the OVC Outdoor Track & Field Championships and ranked No. 3 in the 5,000 meters for the Atlantic Sun Conference.

Dennis Mutai | Eldoret, Kenya | Garden City CC
Mutai is a transfer from Garden City CC, where he received all-conference and all-region honors. He won the four-mile race while setting a new school record with a time of 19:48.7 at the Terry Masterson Twilight Classic (Sept. 3). Mutai was recognized twice as Jayhawk Conference Men's Runner of the Week and took second (24:06.91) at the Region VI Championships (Oct. 30). He finished fifth at the 2021 NJCAA National Championships (Nov. 13) and was one of two Garden City runners who were named All-Americans.

Joshua Taylor | West Unity, Ohio | Bryan H.S.
Taylor holds Bryan High School's 5K school record and is a four-year team MVP. He is a three-time state runner, two-time Second-Team All-Ohio, and a three-time Division II All-Ohio Academic Team. In the classroom, Taylor was recognized as an outstanding Scholar-Athlete, a member of the National Honor Society member, and held a 4.0 GPA for all four years.
