Toledo to Compete in MAC Championships in Illinois This Weekend

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo men's golf team will travel to Naperville, Ill. this weekend to compete in the 2022 Mid-American Conference Championships. The Rockets will be one of eight schools competing for the opportunity to play in the 2022 NCAA Regionals.
The three-day event will be held on Friday-Sunday, April 29-May 1 at the par-72, 7,065-yard White Eagle Golf Club. Eighteen holes will be played each day with play beginning at 11:00 a.m. CT on Friday and Saturday, and 9:00 a.m. on Sunday.

THE FIELD
• Eight schools are participating in the MAC Championships.
• Kent State has won the last five MAC Championships and has won a conference-best 27 tourney titles. The Golden Flashes are ranked No. 63 in Golfstat's national rankings followed by Toledo (102), Northern Illinois (139), Eastern Michigan (155), Ball State (162), Miami (167), Bowling Green (217) and Ohio (240).

ROCKETS AT THE MAC CHAMPIONSHIPS
• The Rockets have won three league crowns in school history in 1964, 2002 and 2004. Toledo also posted runner-up finishes in 2013 and 2015.
• Sophomore Barend Botha leads the Rockets with a 72.4 scoring mark with senior Lukas Clark close behind with a 72.9 scoring mark.
• Junior NJ Botha and sophomore Jamie Tofte Nielsen are tied for third on the team with a 73.6 stroke average.
• Duncan McNeill became the fifth Rocket ever to capture MAC medalist honors in 2019. He joined Ciaran McAleavey (2008), Brad Heaven (2004), Mike Stone (1992) and Tim Hirt (1979, 1980, 1981). Tim Rice tied for first place in 1997.
ON THE HORIZON
• The winning team and medalist at the 2022 MAC Championships will qualify for NCAA Regionals action on May 16-18.
