MUNCIE, Ind. – The Toledo men's tennis team defeated Ball State for the second time this season in a 6-1 victory at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center on Saturday. The Rockets improved to 12-6 overall and 5-1 in MAC play with their fourth straight win.
Toledo won the first doubles' point thanks to a 6-0 sweep by Cole
Shoults and
Krzysztof Wetoszka on the No. 2 court, and clinched the team point with Pawit
Sornlaksup and Marko
Galic's 7-5 win on the No. 1 court.
Sornlaksup continued his hot streak on the No. 1 court, picking up his 16
th singles win in a two-set victory over
Danilo Kovacevic. Luka
Jankovic notched a two-set win on the No. 5 court, while Cole
Shoults clinched the match for the Rockets with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Nathaniel Webster on the No. 4 court. Ball State's only win of the day came on the No. 2 singles court, while Toledo won on the remaining courts, each in two-set fashion.
"The guys today were ready for a lot of adversity," Head Coach Al
Wermer said. "We have hardly played outside at all, and they kept their hands on the wheel through the match. It was not pretty, but we came out on top."
The Rockets will close out their home schedule this week vs. Northern Illinois (April 8) and Western Michigan (April 10). Both matches are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. and will be played at the UT Varsity Tennis Courts, weather permitting.
