Toledo Heads West to Close Out Non-Conference Schedule

TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo women's tennis team (No. 75) will close out its non-conference schedule in California during its spring break trip on Saturday, March 5 and Tuesday March 8. The Rockets will first play UC Riverside on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. then Cal State Fullerton the following Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.Â
For the first time in program history, the Rockets (9-2) are ranked in the ITA Division I Women's Tennis rankings.Â
LAST TIME ON THE COURT
The Rockets won both their matches in West Virginia last weekend, including the first program win over a Big 12 opponent on Saturday. In the match against West Virginia, senior Patricia Panta secured the 4-3 match point win for Toledo on the No. 5 court with a two-set victory over Pei-Ju Hsieh. The next morning, the Rockets swept George Washington 7-0. Junior Sloane Teske picked up two singles wins on the No. 2 court and marked her 12th-straight singles win dating back to last season.
Teske's efforts earned her MAC Singles Player of the Week, while Cassie Alcala and Julia Kuszynski picked up MAC Doubles Team of the Week honors.
ABOUT UC RIVERSIDE
UC Riverside (2-8, 0-4 Big West) dropped a close match with UC Irvine on Feb. 20. UC Irvine took the early match lead off a sweep of all three courts in doubles competition, and had individual victories on the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 courts for the 4-3 win. Sophomore Sydney Tran leads the Highlanders with a 3-0 record on the No. 6 court.
ABOUT CALIFORNIA STATE FULLERTON
Cal. State Fullerton (5-3, 2-1 Big West) were swept by Hawaii 7-0 in their most recent Big West match on Feb. 26. The Titans will face Fresno State on March 5 before hosting Toledo on March 8.
