MILWAUKEE, Wisc. – The University of Toledo men's tennis team closed its weekend with a 4-3 win over Illinois State Saturday afternoon.

Toledo started off strong in doubles competition with wins on the No. 2. Court by Cole Shoults and Krzysztof Wetoszka and the No. 3 court by Adam Kovac and Luka Jankovic.

The Redbirds did not go away, and put up stiff competition on the singles courts, winning three of the courts. Rockets Pawit Sornlaksup and Wetoszka won the No. 1 and No. 3 courts respectively, and Shoults scored the winning point for the Rockets on the No. 4 court. He edged out ISU's Diego Le Gal Perez in three sets, 5-7, 6-1, 7-5.

"This was quite dramatic and hard-fought, with plenty of chaos combined in one of the closes matches I've had," head coach Al Wermer said. "Cole Shoults lessened the tension when he clinched with two remaining matches on. It was terrific team effort by our guys, who are getting better every minute."

Toledo will be back home for its next three matches. The Rockets welcome Northwest Ohio for an 11:00 a.m. match on Wednesday, Feb. 23 at Launchpad Tennis. Wednesday's match is rescheduled from Feb. 4.
