ALLENDALE, Mich.- Freshman Joy Chirchir led a group of Toledo distance runners with a fifth-place finish (16:42.55) in the No. 1 heat of the 5000m at the GVSU Big Meet in Allendale, Mich. today.

Two more Rockets finished in the top 10 of the 5000m. Sophomores Madeline Vining (16:42.99) and Emily Vining (16:44.27) placed sixth and eighth, respectively, while sophomore Faith Linga (17:03.66) came in 12th.
 
In the mile run, senior Semra Karaslan placed 11^th with a time of 4:55.08. Freshman Audrey Witham came in 12^th in the 600m with a time of 1:40.51. 
 
Day two of the GVSU Big Meet will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Also, four Toledo sprinters will be competing at Tiffin's Reggie Thomas Collegiate Classic on Saturday. The meet is scheduled to begin at noon.
