MADISON, Wis. – Sophomore Dennis Mutai finished runner-up to lead Toledo to a fourth-place finish in the Men's "B" 8K race of the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational in Madison, Wis. on Friday. Five Toledo runners finished with personal-best times in the Pre-Nationals meet in a field of 136 runners.
Stanford won the Men's 8K Championship race, followed by BYU, and Northern  Arizona.
In the Men's "B" race, Mutai led the Rockets with a personal-best time of 24:01.5 for a runner-up finish. Junior Benjamin Otis was the second finisher for Toledo, taking 27th overall with a personal-best time of 24:36.6. Senior Mathew Chesum followed in 36th place while senior Jake Rethman took 40th place with a PR time of 24:47.9. Also setting personal-best times were junior Geoff Howles at 24:56.9 and sophomore Charles Kipchumba at 25:37.9. Junior Ben Towler ran a 25:50.1 and freshman Joshuah Taylor ran a 26:00.2 to round out the runners for Toledo.
The Rockets will next head to Wayne State University on Saturday, Oct. 22 for the Warrior Challenge before heading to the Mid-American Conference Championships in Athens, Ohio on Oct. 29.
