2024 First Team All-MAC honoree Joad Martinho leads defending champions
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo men's cross country team is looking to win its second consecutive Mid-American Conference championship on Saturday, Nov. 1 in Buffalo, N.Y. The 8k championship race is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
The Rockets made history in 2024, winning the first MAC crown in school history after earning runner-up finishes in each of the three previous seasons.
In the latest USTFCCCA (United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) regional rankings, Toledo is the highest ranked MAC program in the Great Lakes Region, earning a No. 9 spot and placing ahead of Akron, Ohio and Miami.
The Rockets bring back six student-athletes from their 2024 lineup, including First Team All-MAC honoree Joad Martinho as well as Second Team All-MAC honoree Loann Brelivet. Peter McMahon, Max Matolin and Alex Martinez also competed in the 2024 championship and look to help win the second-straight title.
Junior Joad Martinho has been leading the team, recording two top-ten individual finishes against highly competitive national competition. Martinho placed fifth (23:26.58) at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational and took eighth (23:14.9) at the Princeton Fall Classic.
The men's squad took a seventh-place team finish at the Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational as they placed ahead of then-No. 24 Washington, Boston College, N.C. State, Florida State and Indiana. The team had a strong performance at the Princeton Fall Classic and finished ahead of MAC opponents Eastern Michigan, Buffalo and UMass.
