Toledo Goes Toe-to-Toe with Nationally Ranked Programs in Friday’s Pre-Nationals Meet

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo men's and women's cross country teams have spent the past two weeks preparing for this weekend's Pre-Nationals race, the Nuttycomb Wisconsin Invitational. The women will run a 6K, their first this season, and the men will run an 8K at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course in Madison, Wisc. against many of the top-30 ranked programs in the country.
Toledo's top-seven runners will participate in the women's championships race at 12:20 p.m. and the rest will participate in the women's "B" race at 11:00 a.m. Toledo will have seven runners in the men's "B" race at 11:40 a.m.
The Rocket women will take their start against 20 of the top-30 ranked programs in the nation including No.1 NC State, No. 2 New Mexico, No. 3 Oregon State, No. 4 Northern Arizona, No. 5 BYU, No. 7 Colorado, No. 8 Stanford, No. 9 Washington, No. 10 Notre Dame, No. 11 North Carolina, No. 12 Utah, No. 13 Georgetown, No. 14 Arkansas, No. 15 Syracuse, No. 16 Providence, No. 17 Michigan State, No. 19 Utah Valley, No. 21 Oregon, No. 22 Colorado State No. 23 Utah State, No. 24 Furman, No. 28 Wisconsin, and No. 30 Harvard.
At their last meet, the Rockets finished seventh in the Women's Blue 5K Race of Notre Dame's Joe Piane Invitational on Sept. 30, ahead of Oregon State and six other Division I team receiving votes in the national poll. Toledo was led by sophomore Joy Chirchir, who finished 11th overall, and all nine Rockets ran for personal-best times under the 18-minute mark. On the men's side, all eight runners set personal-best times in the men's open 5-mile race.
In the rankings of the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), the Toledo men remained in the No. 9 position and the women stayed in the No. 6 position in the Great Lakes Region. At the national level, the women's team has received votes every week this season.
