Toledo Heading to Mt. Pleasant to Battle CMU on Tuesday

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo men's basketball team (9-4, 1-1 MAC) looks to bounce back from Saturday's 66-63 defeat at Kent State when it travels to Mt. Pleasant, Mich. to battle Central Michigan (2-10, 1-0 MAC) on Tuesday, Jan. 4. Tip-off time in McGuirk Arena is set for 7:00 p.m. with streaming on ESPN3.

        Sophomore Ryan Rollins leads the Rockets with a MAC-best 19.2 ppg. He  also leads the league with 2.4 spg and has scored 20 or more points in seven of 13 contests. Junior JT Shumate ranks second on the team with 14.8 ppg and is grabbing a team-best 7.5 rpg. Also scoring in double digits are juniors Setric Millner Jr. (13.7 ppg, 5.8 rpg) and RayJ Dennis (11.5 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 3.9 apg).

        Rollins led the Rockets against Kent State with 14 points and nine rebounds before fouling out with 30.4 seconds to play. Joining Rollins in double digits were Millner Jr. and Shumate with 12 points, while redshirt freshman Ra'Heim Moss tallied 10 points.

        Toledo rallied from nine points down to take a 59-58 lead with 2:16 remaining on a pair of Rollins' free throws. Rollins' three-pointer tied the score at 62-62 with  56.0 seconds left before Sincere Carry hit four free throws down the stretch to lift the Golden Flashes to the victory.

        Central Michigan was idle this past weekend after its contest at Miami on Saturday was postponed. The Chippewas opened conference play with a 72-69 victory at Kent State last Wednesday. CMU leads the MAC with a 37.5 three-point FG%, while the Rockets top the conference with a 28.9 three-point FG% defense.

        Central Michigan has five players scoring 9.0 ppg or more led by graduate transfer Jermaine Jackson Jr. with 11.0 ppg.

   Toledo leads 66-40. Toledo has won seven of its last nine games vs. CMU after splitting last year's season series. The Rockets have posted double-digit victories in six of their seven wins during this stretch.
 
ROCKETS IN MAC TEAM RANKINGS
•  Toledo tops the MAC in defensive rpg (29.4) and three-point FG% defense (28.9) and is second in FG% defense (39.5).
•  The Rockets are also third in two more categories — offensive rpg (11.9) and assist/turnover ratio (1.18).
 
ROCKETS IN MAC INDIVIDUAL RANKINGS
•  Ryan Rollins leads the MAC with 19.2 ppg. Ohio's Mark Sears is second with 18.7 ppg.
•  Rollins also tops the MAC with 2.4 spg and is ninth with 3.1 apg.
•  JT Shumate paces the conference with a 51.9 3PTFG% and ranks fourth with a 55.7 field-goal mark and 7.5 rpg. He also is 10th with a 78.9 FT% after knocking down his last 11 attempts at the charity stripe.
•  RayJ Dennis ranks fourth in the MAC with 4.0 apg.
•  Four Rockets — JT Shumate (4.8/T-8th), RayJ Dennis (4.8/T-8th), Ryan Rollins (4.6/11th) and Setric Millner Jr. (4.2/15th) — rank among the MAC leaders in defensive rebounds per game.
 
ROCKETS VS. CHIPPEWAS
•  Sophomore Ryan Rollins averaged 21.0 ppg, 6.5 rpg and 2.0 apg with a 64.0 FG% (16-of-25) and 50.0 3PTFG% (4-of-8) in two games last year vs. CMU. Rollins tallied a season-high 25 points vs. the Chippewas on Jan. 19.
•  Junior Setric Millner, Jr. averaged 12.0 ppg, 4.5 rpg and 3.5 apg.
•  Rollins, Millner and JT Shumate each converted 6-of-8 free throws vs. CMU last season.
 
POST TOUCHES
•  Toledo has held each of its last three opponents under a 33.3 shooting mark. Marshall and Western Michigan both shot 32.1 percent from the field, while Kent State posted a 33.3 mark.
•  Rollins has scored in double digits in 37 of 43 career games and leads the MAC with 2.4 spg. Rollins is averaging 3.3 spg in his last eight contests.
•  Ryan Rollins was held under 14 points for the only time this season against a Division I opponent when he scored just five points at Richmond (Dec. 11).
•  Setric Millner Jr. scored a career-high 27 points on 9-of-13 shooting vs. Charlotte and poured in 25 points with a career-high four three-pointers at Richmond.
•  JT Shumate ranks in the MAC's Top 15 in six categories.  He leads the MAC with a 51.9 three-point FG% and is fourth with 7.5 rpg and a 55.7 FG%, fifth with 2.7 offensive rpg, tied for eighth with 4.8 defensive rpg, and 12th with 14.8 ppg.
•  RayJ Dennis scored a career-high 21 points and grabbed nine boards vs. Charlotte (Nov. 22). He tallied 20 points, seven boards and five assists vs. Marshall (Dec. 21) and is fourth in the MAC with a team-high 3.9 apg and tied for eighth with 4.8 defensive rpg.
  
ON THE HORIZON
     Toledo will host Northern Illinois (3-7, 0-0 MAC) on Saturday, Jan. 8 at 2:00 p.m. before traveling to Oxford, Ohio to face Miami (7-5, 1-0 MAC) on Tuesday, Jan. 11 at 7:00 p.m. The Huskies have had their first three MAC contests postponed.
