Toledo Set to Host Rocket Invite

TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo women's tennis team will host its Rocket Invite this weekend at the UT Varsity Tennis Courts. Competition will be held all day Friday and Saturday.

The Rockets welcome Bucknell, Valparaiso, and Youngstown State for the weekend. The competition schedule can be found below.

"It will be exciting to have the entire team compete this weekend for the first time since last April," head coach Tracy Mauntler said. "This format is exciting because teammates get to play side-by-side so it has the feel of dual matches. We love hosting this event on our beautiful campus every year."

This will be the first team competition for Toledo this fall after last weekend's ITA Midwest Regionals. The Rockets saw terrific performances from sophomores Cassie Alcala, Julia Kuszynski, and Shalini Tallamraju as well as junior Sloane Teske. Alcala and Teske made headlines by advancing to ITA Midwest Super Regionals in doubles play, the first time anyone from Toledo has advance out of ITA Regional play under the current format.

Alcala and Teske defeated Illinois State's Tijana Zlatanovic and Maria Potsi to begin the day on Saturday, then topped the No. 1-seeded Madeline Atway and Shelly Bereznyak from Ohio State (8-4) to advance to super regionals.

Toledo will return home at the end of the month for another weekend invitational, with more information on that event to come.
