Rockets Set for IUPUI Tournament This Weekend

TOLEDO, Ohio - The University of Toledo women's volleyball team (2-1) will compete in the IUPUI Tournament this weekend.

The Rockets will begin play against Western Illinois at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The weekend will continue on Saturday with a 10:00 a.m. contest against Chattanooga followed by IUPUI at 6:00 p.m. to conclude the weekend slate.

  • Taylor Alt is coming off a strong performance at the Virginia Tech Invitational that earned her MAC West Division Offensive Player of the Week honors. Alt totaled a team-best 41 kills while hitting .310 over three matches. Alt logged her first double-double of the season with 16 kills and 12 digs against Lehigh.
  • Olivia Vance landed a career-high five aces against Elon and enters the IUPUI Tournament tied for the team lead with Alt.
  • Three Rockets have already surpassed 20 digs through the first three matches. Rhyen Neal has logged 29 while Ryann Jaqua has 28 and Alt has tallied 24.
  • At the net, the trio of Rhyenne Filisi, Jada Bouyer and Alt are leading the way in blocks with each having seven total.

About Western Illinois
Western Illinois enters the match against Toledo with a record of 0-3 after dropping all three matches at the NIU Invitational last weekend. The Leathernecks are led by sophomore middle blocker Kennedy Davis. Davis posted team-highs in kills (19), blocks (8) and aces (3) over the team's first two matches. Junior outside hitter Aubrey Putman wasn't too far behind with 18 kills and seven blocks. 

About Chattanooga
Chattanooga goes into the IUPUI Tournament with a 1-3 record. The Mocs began the year with a 3-1 win over Georgia State at the Georgia State Invitational, but later lost to Memphis and California Baptist. The Mocs faced Jacksonville State on Tuesday, falling in three sets. Chattanooga was paced on the attack by Gylian Finch with 44 kills followed by junior Maia Rackel with 43. 

About IUPUI
The host of the tournament, IUPUI, opened the season at the EIU Panther Invitational, falling to Eastern Illinois and Chicago State before topping Bellarmine to start out 1-2. Graduate student Rhiannon Schuenemann tallied a team-high 54 digs while sophomore Millai Madison registered a team-high 12 block assists.
