Toledo split its four-game series at second-place Ball State last weekend by posting 6-4 victories in the first two games before dropping the last two contests. The Rockets had a chance to win Sunday's series finale, but the Cardinals tied the score with a homer in the seventh before winning it in the eighth.
Freshman Lauren Erickson led the Rockets in the series with a .600 batting average (6-of-10), with sophomore Leah Munson (3-of-6) and junior Aleah Marra also hitting .400 or better.
Senior Dayna Denner and Marra tallied three hits apiece to pace the Rockets' 14-hit attack in the opener. Sophomore Macey Moore, Erickson and freshman Jenna Kroll also collected a pair of singles for the Rockets with Kroll driving in a team-high two runs.
Toledo took the lead for good in Game One of Saturday's doubleheader with a three-run third inning. Kroll's RBI single to center gave UT a 4-3 lead before Erickson's RBI single to left provided the Rockets a 5-3 advantage. Freshman Annika Johnson (2-1) registered the victory by scattering eight hits and allowing three runs in 4.2 innings. Senior Erin Hunt earned her second save of the season by allowing just one hit and fanning four batters in 2.1 innings of one-run relief.
Toledo suffered a heartbreaking 5-4 setback in eight innings on Sunday. The Rockets held a 4-3 lead in the seventh before the Cardinals rallied. Kroll tallied two of Toledo's five hits in the contest, including a solo homer that gave UT a 4-3 lead in the fourth inning.
