Toledo Cruises to 8-1 Victory Over Akron

TOLEDO, Ohio — Senior Erin Hunt hurled a three-hitter and won her 20th game of the season on Friday afternoon to lead the Toledo softball team to an 8-1 victory over Akron (8-43, 7-30 MAC) at Scott Park.

Hunt retired the first eight batters and struck out seven in a complete-game effort to help the Rockets (28-22, 18-16 MAC) capture the opener of their four-game series.

"Erin had another really clean game except for one inning," Head Coach Joe Abraham said.  "She has thrown so much this year that she is just gutting it out. Twenty wins is a huge accomplishment in today's day and age."

Toledo took control of the contest with a three-run fourth inning, with junior Aubrey Reed providing the big blow with a two-out two-run single. The Rockets then added two runs in the fifth and sixth frames.

Sophomore Macey Moore paced the Rockets' eight-hit attack with a pair of singles.

Toledo and Akron will meet again tomorrow in a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader followed by a single game on Sunday, May 16 at noon. All three games will be on ESPN3 with Raquel Emery being honored on Sunday prior to the Rockets' annual Senior Day ceremony.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Toledo plated the game's first run in the second on Anna Dixon's two-out single to right field.
  • The Zips scored their lone run on a bases-loaded walk in the top of the fourth.
  • The Rockets took the lead right back in the bottom half of the inning when Raelyn Nyren drew a two-out bases-loaded walk and Aubrey Reed followed with a two-run single up the middle.
  • Toledo scored a pair of runs in the fifth on a Zips throwing error and RBIs from Aleah Marra and Macey Moore closed out the scoring in the sixth.
