Simiuc and Khabina Travel to Ole Miss on Saturday

TOLEDO, Ohio - Seniors Petronela Simiuc and Yana Khabina will be traveling to Ole Miss in Oxford, Mississippi to compete at the Joe Walker Invitational on Saturday, April 10. Simiuc will be competing in the 1500m and 800m race followed by Khabina in the 400m hurdles.
"After a long wait, Petra will be making her season debut for us in her final outdoor season as a Rocket," said Head Coach Andrea Grove-McDonough. "Coming off the European Indoor Championships, we decided we needed to push back the start of her season so she could recover and regroup from the extensive travel and the emotional output of her first senior national team event. She is essentially just going to be getting the rust off and building for a championship season. Yana will be making her debut in her specialty, the 400m hurdles, after a great season opener in the 800m event to finish second."
Simuic set a personal best in the 1500 meters at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Torun, Poland on March 5. In 2020, she set a then-MAC record in the indoor mile with a time of 4:34.59 at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational. She also set the Toledo indoor record in the 800m with a first-place time of 2:07.46 at the 2020 MAC Indoor Championships.
