Rockets Soar in Florida and Iowa

ORLANDO, Fla. / DES MOINES, Iowa –Senior Yana Khabina ran a season-best time of 1:00.10 on day one of the Knights Invite in Orlando, Fla. on Friday. Khabina's time currently ranks her third in the Mid-American Conference with only two weeks left before the MAC Outdoor Championships on May 7-8.

The Knights Invite was one of two meets in which the Rockets participated on Friday, the other being the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.

In the women's 200m race, the Rockets set three personal-best times. Junior Rayna Horner finishing 33^rd with a time of 25.52, followed by Shianne Johnson (36^th/25.58) and Ava Moran (38^th/25.68).

"We had a good day today, filled with season and personal bests," said Associate Head Coach Adrian Ghioroaie. "Rayna and Shianne won their individual heats with career-best times. After today's success, we are looking forward to competing in tomorrow's events."

Day Two of the Knights Invite starts tomorrow at 12:00 p.m., beginning with the 100m hurdles.

At the Drake Relays, freshman Emily Vining finished ninth in the 5000m with a time of 16.31.16 on day one of the meet on Thursday. Vining currently has the second fastest time in the MAC. Junior Semra Karaslan finished third in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:25.89. Karaslan currently holds the first fastest time in 3000m steeplechase after her ninth-place finish at the Raleigh Relays (March 25-27) with a time of 10:15.19.

On day two of the Drake Relays on Friday, senior Petronela Simiuc posted a collegiate-best time of 4:17.44 in the 1500m. Simiuc will take on the 800m race on Saturday on the third and final day of the meet at 3:21p.m. She is currently ranked first in the MAC after clocking in with a time of 2:08.39 at the Joe Walker Invitational (April 9-10).

The third meet in which the Rockets are competing this weekend, the RedHawk Invitational in Oxford, Ohio, begins on Saturday, April 24 at 12:30 p.m.
