Toledo Inks Pair to National Letters of Intent

TOLEDO, Ohio - Head Coach Tod Kowalczyk announced on Wednesday the signing of Mihai Carcoana (Cluj Napoca, Romania) and EJ Farmer (Cleveland, Ohio) to national letters of intent to attend the University of Toledo. Carcoana and Farmer are both slated to join the Rocket men's basketball program prior to the start of the 2021-22 academic year.

Mihaii Carcoana
A 6-foot-11 center, Carcoana averaged 10.9 ppg, 5.6 rpg, and 1.1 bpg in the 2019 U18 FIBA Tournament Division B while representing his home country.

"Mihai is a skilled, typical European post player who can step out and shoot and score with his back to the basket," Kowalczyk said. "Watching him on film reminded us of a younger Nathan Boothe from early on in his career. He has really good hands and a good feel which is something we're very big on. He's clearly someone we feel has a bright future."

EJ Farmer
A 6-foot-4 guard, Farmer was an honorable-mention Division I All-Ohio and second-team all-district selection this year for Cleveland Heights after averaging 18.2 ppg. As a junior for the Tigers, he averaged 16.6 ppg, 3.5 rpg and 1.1 apg. He received first-team Division III All-Ohio honors as a sophomore at Cleveland Heights Lutheran East. He averaged 22.5 ppg, 4.0 rpg, and 2.0 apg for a Falcon squad that reached the state title game.

"EJ is a long guard who can shoot it well, and with his length could develop into a very good defender," Kowalczyk said. "He also possesses some intangibles that are difficult to teach, primarily his feel and passing ability. We think he can make an impact right away."

Carcoana and Farmer will join incoming freshmen Arnor Eytjprsson (Selfloss, Iceland), Kooper Jacobi (Sellersburg, Ind.) and Eljah Wilson (Lawrenceville, Ga.) as part of the Rockets' incoming recruiting class. UT also will also be adding transfer RayJ Dennis (Oswego, Ill.) to its 2021-22 roster. Dennis played the last two seasons at Boise State.

Toledo (21-9) captured the Mid-American Conference title this past season with a 15-4 win-loss mark in league play.
