Yana Khabina Takes Third in 400m Hurdles at Ole Miss

OXFORD, Miss. – Senior Yana Khabina finished in third-place in the 400m hurdles at the Joe Walker Invitational in Oxford, Miss. on Saturday.
Khabina clocked in with a time of 1:00.57, just behind Niya Benton-Andrews of Auburn (1:00.26), and Tylar Colbert of Auburn who won the race with a time of 59.51.
Senior Petronela Simiuc finished sixth in her first race of the season running in the 1500m on Friday with a time of 4:18.06. Simiuc finished 14th in the 800m on Saturday with a time of 2:08.39.
"It was a great weekend for both women," said Head Coach Andrea Grove-McDonough. "Yana has not been able to compete in her best event, the 400m hurdles, in over two years. She faced strong winds on Saturday, but her time is right where she needs it to be for success later in the season and grabbing an NCAA qualifying mark.
"Our goal for Petra was to run a time that would qualify her for the NCAAs in the 1500m. After a late start to the season, following the European Championships, we are relieved she accomplished that goal."
The Rockets will head to Eastern Kentucky on April 16-17 to compete at the Rick Erdmann Twilight.
