Rockets Host Bowling Green, Visit Ohio this Week

TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo women's volleyball team has four matches on the docket this week, beginning with a pair of weekday contests. The Rockets host Bowling Green on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. before visiting Ohio on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday's iteration of the Battle of I-75 will be available on ESPN+.

After their two weekday matches against the Falcons and Bobcats, the Rockets will host Buffalo this weekend for their final two home matches of the season. 

Last Time Out

Toledo hosted Central Michigan over the weekend, losing in four sets on Friday and five sets on Saturday.

After losing the first set on Friday, Toledo evened the match with a second-set victory. The Rockets lost a close third set and couldn't keep up with the Chippewas' offensive attack in the fourth. Taylor Alt tallied a team-high 17 kills and added a pair of blocks. Abby Erickson added a career-high five blocks.

On Saturday, the Rockets dominated the first set and ended the second set strong to take a 2-0 lead in the match. They led 15-10 in the third set as well, but the Chippewas scored the next five points to even the set and begin their comeback. CMU won the third frame and staved off a Toledo surge in the fourth set to force a fifth, where the Rockets eventually fell 15-7. Liz Beasley registered a career-high 14 kills and Abby Ray added a career-best 18 digs.


Quick Hits

  •           Toledo has two freshmen that rank among the leaders in kills and assists in the MAC. Taylor Alt (3.73 kills/set) and Payton Morman (10.29 assists/set) both sit sixth in their respective statistical categories. Morman is fifth in the country among freshmen setters in assists/set.
  •           Toledo ranks atop the MAC in blocks, averaging 2.57/set. Olivia Vance is third in the conference in that category (1.19/set). The Rockets have recorded double-digit blocks in their last three matches and they have 10+ blocks in seven matches this season.
  •           Should Vance continue to accumulate blocks at this rate, she'll set a new school record for blocks/set in a single season. The current mark is 1.09 blocks/set, set by Denise Berg in 1994.
  •           Ryann Jaqua had 30 digs in the five-set battle against CMU, her third match with at least 30 digs this season.
  •           Rhyen Neal is averaging 0.36 service aces/set, which ranks fourth in the MAC.


About Bowling Green

The Falcons enter Tuesday's match with a perfect 15-0 mark and they have lost just 10 total sets this season. BGSU leads the MAC in hitting (.246) and opponent hitting (.154), and it has held opponents to a league-best 11.55 kills/set. Katelyn Meyer (4.04), Petra Indrova (3.73), and Jacqueline Askin (3.03) all average at least three kills per set, and setter Hanna Laube is second in the league in assists (11.58/set).

The Bobcats are 6-6 and will play at Kent State on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. Ohio is hitting .222 as a team and is led individually by Lauren Park (3.74 kills/set), Caitlin O'Farrell (.346), Vera Giacomazzi (10.51 assists/set), and Sam Steele (5.52 digs/set).
