Mt. Pleasant, Mich. – The University of Toledo women's track and field team competed in its second meet of the season, setting 11 personal bests at Central Michigan's Jack Skoog Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 6. The Rockets competed against host Central Michigan and Bowling Green in an unscored meet.
The biggest highlight of the day for Toledo was the 3000m race, with the Rockets taking the top four spots. Sophomore 
Emily Vining (10:02.27), sophomore 
Madeline Vining (10.05.31), junior 
Claire Steigerwald (10.08.21) and junior 
Maya Hannagan (10:08.89) placed 1-2-3-4 in that race.
"It was a very good day today for the team as a whole," said Head Coach 
Andrea Grove-McDonough. "We made a lot of improvements from two weeks ago, which is exactly what we are looking for at this time in the season."
Other top performances for the Rockets came from freshman 
Alexia Moehling, who took second in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9:14; junior 
Rayna Horner, who finished second in the 400m dash with a time of 59.02; freshman 
Julia Dames who placed third in the mile with a time of 5:12.02, followed closely by 
Paige Embaugh (5:12.70).
Another bright spot for the sprint group was freshman 
Shianne Johnson, who produced a personal-best time of 26.01 in the 200m, good for sixth place. In the field events, freshman 
Promise Cross took third in the high jump (1.60m).
The men's cross country team competed in two distance events and had outstanding performances by three sophomores. In the 3000m race 
Jacob Harris finished first with a time of 8:26.45 and 
Jake Rethman was right behind in second, clocking in at 8:27.33.  
Alex Kelker finished first in the mile with a time of 4:36.78.
The Rockets are scheduled to compete next at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa next Friday and Saturday, Feb. 12-13.  Some of the squad will also be competing at the Doug Raymond Invitational in Kent, Ohio on Saturday.
