MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Junior Semra Karaslan provided another strong performance for Toledo on the second and final day of the 2021 MAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday.
Â
Karaslan took second in the 3000m with a time of 9:36.79, trailing Ashley Tutt of Northern Illinois, who took first with a MAC Championship-record time of 9:23.64. Toledo sophomore Emily Vining finished seventh with a personal-best time of 9:46.54. A day earlier, Karaslan anchored Toledo's distance medley relay team to a second-place finish.
Â
The Rockets finished the championships with 21.5 team points giving them a tie for ninth-place with Buffalo. Northern Illinois took first place with a total of 127 points.Â
"The highlight of the day was the women's 3K where we scored a much-needed 10 points," said Head Coach Andrea Grove-McDonough. "Semra had a great performance with her fastest time of the season after converting the time to flat track. Emily had an enormous personal-best that scored the team two points. We are always looking for athletes to have their best performance at the championships."
Freshman Promise Cross tied for seventh in the high jump with a height of 1.65m, giving the Rockets 1.5 points. "Promise showed us today that she has great potential to do well for the Rockets in the future," said Grove-McDonough.
The MAC Championships is the final meet of the 2021 indoor season for the Rockets. The outdoor season is set to begin Mar. 20 at the Miami Blizzard Buster in Oxford, Ohio.
