Stephanie Sherman Places Second in 3000m at Blizzard Buster

OXFORD, Ohio – Senior Stephanie Sherman led the University of Toledo women's track and field team in its first outdoor meet of season on Saturday with a second-place finish in the 3000m at Miami's Blizzard Buster. She crossed the finish line with a time of 9:40.49, 14 seconds faster than her previous personal-best.
"Stephanie Sherman picked up where she left off over a year ago at the MAC Championships during the indoor 2020 season," said Assistant Coach Nick Stenuf. "She ran really composed and is looking good heading into our outdoor season. It was a great team effort overall, and we are happy to be back on the track."
Other top performances for the Rockets came from freshman Shianne Johnson, who took fifth in the 400m with a personal-best time of 1:00.46, as well as freshman Promise Cross, who finished sixth in the high jump with a height of 1.58m and set a personal-best in the 100m hurdles to finish 11th with a time of 15.23. The Rocket women set seven personal-best times at the Miami meet.Â
The men's cross country team competed as well in four events and had outstanding performances in the 3000m. Freshman Ben Towler  finished sixth with a time of 8:52.68, followed by freshman Caleb Newlon in seventh with a time of  8:54.70, and sophomore Jonathan Hrivnak in eighth with a time of 8:55.47. Sophomore Alex Kelker clocked in with a time of 2:02.96 to finish 17th in the 800m. Freshman Nathan Kemp stopped the clock at 4:07.83 to finish 17th in the 1500m.Â

The Rockets are scheduled to compete next at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C. on Thursday-Saturday, March 25-27. Â
