Toledo Hosts Three Matches this Weekend

TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo men's tennis team will have a busy weekend, hosting three home matches at Shadow Valley Tennis Club.

The Rockets entertain Cleveland State on Friday, Feb. 25 at 1:00 p.m. before welcoming Tiffin on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 2:00 p.m., and closing out their weekend with a home match on Sunday, Feb. 27 against Xavier at 2:00 p.m.

"In our abbreviated year and season, this a weekend filled with opportunity—as it's our biggest prep weekend for conference play," head coach Al Wermer said.

Last Time Out
Toledo played at Youngstown State last weekend and lost to the Penguins, 6-1.

YSU won the doubles point by claiming victories on courts No. 2 and 3, while the doubles tandem of Cole Shoults and Krzysztof Wetoszka stayed undefeated this year by defeating their YSU counterparts, 6-4.

In singles play, the lone Rocket to win his match was Wetoszka (7-6, 7-1), who is now 3-0 on the No. 3 court this year. The rest of Toledo's singles lineup featured Cole Shoults on the top court, Thawin Suksathaporn on court No. 2, Adam Kovac on the No. 4 court, Filip Zupancic on court No. 5, and Luis Kleinschnitz on court No. 6.

Fan attendance policy
There will be no general admission fan attendance allowed at Toledo men's tennis indoor matches this season. Each student-athlete and staff member will be allowed a maximum of two guests per person at Shadow Valley Tennis Club. Anyone in attendance at Toledo men's tennis indoor matches must wear a mask that covers the nose and mouth at all times.

About Cleveland State
Cleveland State is 2-3 entering the weekend, having won its last two matches against Butler and Buffalo. The doubles duo of Luke Phillips and Nico Mostardi recently won Horizon League Doubles Team of the Week accolades for the second time after winning on the No. 1 court at UB. In singles play, Phillips is 4-0 when playing on the No. 2 court.

About Tiffin
Tiffin is 2-2, having posted wins against Davenport and Northwood. Michael Gurtner has played all four matches on the No. 1 singles court and owns a record of 2-2, while Cyrille Colomb is 3-1 in singles play, splitting time between courts No. 5 and 6. Gurtner and Gabriel de Oliveira have paired up in doubles play in all four matches, where they have posted a 2-2 mark on the No. 1 court.

About Xavier
The Musketeers are 1-2 entering Sunday's match, having lost to Ball State and Youngstown State while defeating Bellarmine. Brett Winters is 2-0 when playing on the top singles court and Matthew Graft is 2-1 playing individually across three spots. Winters and Campbell Nakayama are 2-1 in doubles play together.

Next Up
Toledo hosts Wayne State on Sunday, March 7 before opening MAC play the following weekend against Northern Illinois and Western Michigan.
