TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo women's tennis team visits Youngstown State on Friday, Feb. 19 for a 1:00 p.m. match.
"I expect YSU to come out firing as they've had some solid wins this winter," head coach Tracy Mauntler said. "Our goal with such a young team is to get a little better and more confident every time we step on the court."
Last Time Out
The Rockets hosted Cleveland State in their first home match of 2021 last Friday and came away with a 5-2 victory.
After Cleveland State claimed victory on the No. 1 doubles court and the Rockets' freshman duo of Cassie Alcala and Shalini Tallamraju won on court No. 3, the doubles point came down to court No. 2. The experienced doubles team of juniors Eileen Carney and Christina Fuller was able to outlast the CSU tandem of Kateryna Avram and Blanche Lenoan to win 7-6 and get the Rockets off to a good start.
For their efforts in doubles play, Carney and Fuller earned MAC Doubles Team of the Week honors on Wednesday.
In singles play, Alcala and senior Patricia Panta earned victories on courts No. 2 and No, 5, respectively, to put the Rockets on the brink of victory. Cleveland State's Leonan came out on top on the No. 3 court, but then Toledo freshman Julia Kuszynski played her way to a win on court No. 4 (6-1, 6-3) to clinch the win for the Rockets. Tallamraju also defeated her Viking counterpart on Friday on the No. 6 court (6-2, 6-4).
