Rockets to Visit No. 22 Michigan State on Saturday

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo men's basketball team (6-1) brings a four-game winning streak into Saturday's matchup at No. 22 Michigan State (6-2). Tip-off time in the Breslin Center is set for 5:00 p.m. with the Big Ten Network televising the contest.
       
The Rockets followed up their Baha Mar Hoops Nassau Championship (Nov. 22-24) with the largest victory in program history, a 106-36 triumph over  NAIA foe Northwestern Ohio on Monday. Six Rockets scored in double figures in the win over the Racers with junior Setric Millner Jr. leading the way with 17 pts.

Millner is coming off an all-tournament team performance in the Bahamas and is now averaging 19.3 ppg with a 52.8 FG% and 53.3 3PTFG% (8-of-15) in his last four contests.

Sophomore Ryan Rollins leads Toledo and ranks 33rd nationally with a team-high 20.0 ppg. He has scored 15 or more points against the Rockets' Division I opponents, including a career-high 35 points in Toledo's championship-game win over Coastal Carolina that propelled him to MAC Player of the Week honors.

Juniors JT Shumate and RayJ Dennis are also scoring in double digits with 14.9 and 11.6 ppg.  Shumate and Millner are pacing the Rockets in rebounding, while Dennis is dishing out a team-high 4.0 apg. The Rockets are outrebounding their opposition by 9.4 rpg this season, a figure that ranks 18th in the nation.
       
Michigan State is 3-0 at home this season and registered a 73-64 home victory over Louisville on Wednesday in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. Senior Gabe Brown leads the Spartans with 13.0 ppg, while senior Marcus Bingham Jr. ranks second with 10.6 ppg along with a team-high 7.8 rpg, 3.4 bpg and 1.4 spg.

SERIES
Michigan State leads 5-3. The Rockets have split their last two meetings vs. the Spartans, posting an 81-76 win on Dec. 30, 2002 and dropping a 75-62 decision on Nov. 21, 2009.

POST TOUCHES
•  Ryan Rollins scored a career-high 35 points en route to earning Tournament MVP honors at the Baha Mar Hoops Nassau Championship. He was 12-of-20 from the field, a career-best 4-of-5 from three-point range and 7-of-9 from the free-throw line.
•  Rollins topped MAC freshmen with 13.5 ppg last year and was named MAC Freshman of the Year as well as being named a finalist for the Kyle Macy National Freshman of the Year. He ranked second on the team with 2.6 apg, third with 5.3 rpg.
•  Setric Millner Jr. scored a career-high 27 points on 9-of-13 shooting vs. Charlotte (Nov. 22) and followed that up with an 18-point, 12-rebound effort vs. Tulane (Nov. 23).
•  Ryan Rollins and JT Shumate are the only two Rockets to score in double digits in every game this season.
•  JT Shumate ranks in the MAC's Top 15 in six categories.  He is third with a 51.9 three-point FG%,  fifth with a 61.7 FG%, sixth with 7.3 rpg, tied for seventh with 5.9 defensive rpg, ninth with 2.4 offensive rpg, and 11th with 15.3 ppg.
•  RayJ Dennis scored a career-high 21 points and grabbed nine boards vs. Charlotte (Nov. 22). In the Rockets' three games in the Bahamas, Dennis averaged 12.0 ppg, 7.0 rpg and 4.3 apg. Dennis in his first season at Toledo after transferring from Boise State.
•  Head Coach Tod Kowalczyk is in his 12th season at the Rockets' helm and has guided Toledo to five 20-win campaigns in the last eight years, marking the first time for this accomplishment since Bob Nichols recorded five straight 20-win seasons from 1976-81.
•  Toledo has now won four in-season tournaments during Coach Kowalczyk's tenure. The Rockets won the Texas-Pan American Tournament in 2012, 2K Sports Classic Sub Regional in 2013, the Gulfcoast Showcase  in 2018 and the Baha Mar Hoops Nassau Championship last week.
 
ROCKETS VS. BIG TEN
•  Toledo possesses an all-time mark of 27-43 vs. schools from the Big Ten Conference.
•  The Rockets have posted a win against every Big Ten school except Maryland, Nebraska and Rutgers with its last contest against a Big Ten foe coming at Michigan last year.
•  Toledo is 2-2 vs. Illinois, 1-4 vs. Indiana, 3-1 vs. Iowa, 8-14 vs. Michigan, 3-5 vs. Michigan State, 1-2 vs. Minnesota, 1-0 vs. Northwestern, 4-5 vs. Ohio State, 2-5 vs. Penn State, 1-3 vs. Purdue and 1-2 vs. Wisconsin. The Rockets are 0-3 vs. Nebraska and have never faced Maryland or Rutgers.

ON THE HORIZON
     Toledo will host Bradley on Tuesday, Dec. 7 at 7:00 p.m. in Savage Arena before traveling to Richmond on Saturday, Dec. 11 for a 6:00 p.m. matchup vs. the Spiders.
