BUFFALO, NY. – Toledo is one game closer to the end of the regular season following a 0-0 tie with Buffalo in a crucial Mid-American Conference matchup Sunday afternoon. Sophomore
Emma Boutorwick recorded her ninth shutout to help Toledo (10-4-4, 5-3-2 MAC) get one game closer to a spot in the MAC tournament.
The Rockets entered the game in fifth place in the MAC standings and remain so with one game to play. The top six teams qualify for the MAC Tournament. Toledo will need any combination of a win or tie in its season finale at Bowling Green, or a loss or tie by sixth-place Central Michigan (5-4-1) in its game at Eastern Michigan (1-7-2) on the same day. Toledo defeated the Chippewas earlier in the season and thus holds the tie-breaker with them. Additionally, if Toledo loses and CMU wins, the Rockets would need a loss or tie from seventh-place Miami (5-5), which plays at Ball State on Thursday.
Toledo and Buffalo (11-3-3, 5-2-3 MAC) both put up tough defenses and were backed by stingy goalies who stopped every shot. Each team had multiple chances to convert on free kicks or corner kicks, but neither found the back of the net after 110 minutes of play.
"I am proud of our team's effort today," head coach
TJ Buchholz said. "Buffalo has a strong attack, and our defense did an excellent job to keep them scoreless. It is always difficult to get a point on the road and our team did a great job of persevering through 110 minutes."
Toledo's game on Thursday at archrival Bowling Green is set for 3:00 p.m. kickoff.
