Mark Batman Receives Contract Extension Through 2029 Season

TOLEDO, Ohio – University of Toledo Vice President and Director of Athletics Tom Moreland has announced a contract extension for Head Women's Soccer Coach Mark Batman through the 2029 season.

Batman is currently in his fourth season leading the Rockets, having guided the program to 22 wins and 38 results as Rockets' head coach. This has included a strong start to the 2026 season (5-4-3).

"Mark has done great work elevating this program, developing student-athletes and getting their buy-in as we work towards competing for MAC championships every season," said Moreland. "He brings an elite culture both on and off the field, and his players reach new heights in every match. Our visions for the program are in lockstep, and Mark is relentless in pursuing our goals for the program. This season's results have shown progress, and I'm excited to see Toledo women's soccer continue to grow in the seasons to come."

"I'm very excited about continuing on the path we are on over the next few years," said Batman. "Toledo Soccer is in a great place, and we will only continue to get better. I want to thank Tom and our administration for believing and trusting in our plan for the future of Toledo Soccer."

In Batman's first season in 2023, Toledo engineered a five-win improvement from two to seven victories, highlighted by a four-match winning streak in MAC play. Toledo then totaled 11 results in 2024 and 10 more in 2025. The Rockets tied a program record in 2024 for fewest goals allowed, yielding just 16 all season and totaling eight shutouts.

In 2026, Batman has led Toledo to eight results through 12 matches. Toledo won its first match over Kent State since 2015 in the MAC opener. Remarkably, Batman's squad has shut out five consecutive opponents on the road, the longest road shutout streak in program history. Many of Batman's early recruits at Toledo have played key roles in the Rockets' success, including MAC leading scorer Ella Zoerhoff and Paige Dornheggen, who has earned MAC Goalkeeper of the Week honors.

Toledo has maintained significant academic success under Batman, with 16 Academic All-District and 29 Academic All-MAC selections. The Rockets have taken individual academic honors, including Academic All-Ohio.

Batman's players have gone on to careers in professional soccer: Goalkeeper Agnes Stenlund (2024-2025) played for Budapest Honved F.C. in Hungary before later signing with Apollon Ladies F.C. to compete in the UEFA Women's Champions League, and Midfielder Alli Macbeth (2023-2025) signed with George Cross F.C. in Australia.
