TOLEDO, Ohio – Freshman Elaine Redman, sophomore Taylor Alt, and junior Ryann Jaqua were all named MAC West Players of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Redman was named Setter of the Week, Alt was named Offensive Player of the Week, and Jaqua was named Defensive Player of the Week, giving the Rockets a sweep of the conference's weekly honors in the West Division.
All three players played exceptionally well in Toledo's victories over Buffalo and Akron over the weekend.
Redman averaged 11.00 assists/set and helped lead a Rocket offensive attack that hit .335 across both matches. In the match at Buffalo, Redman tallied 32 assists as well as five kills on eight attempts. Toledo hit .385 in the three-set victory over the Bulls, the team's highest attack percentage since 2019. The next day at Akron, she dished out 34 assists as Toledo once again won in three sets.
Alt was dominant over the weekend in the wins over Buffalo and Akron. She averaged 4.50 kills/set and hit .426, tallying 27 kills on 54 attempts with just four errors. Alt had early identical stat lines in both matches, recording 14 kills and hitting .423 in the victory at Buffalo on Friday, then she followed that up by hitting .429 and collecting 13 kills on Saturday in the win at Akron. Alt ranks third in the MAC in kills (3.77/set) and second in scoring (4.49 points/set).
Now the winner of the two straight MAC West Defensive Player of the Week awards, Jaqua had another excellent weekend in the back row for Toledo. She averaged 6.67 digs/set and successfully received 32-of-33 serves that came her way. Jaqua had 19 digs in Friday's win against the Bulls and had 21 digs the next day at Akron, posting a perfect reception percentage (21-for-21). Jaqua has been outstanding in conference play, averaging 6.17 digs/set in six matches and helping the Rockets get off to a 5-1 start against MAC opponents.
Toledo is off to its best start in program history with a record of 14-4 and a 5-1 mark in conference play. The Rockets host first-place Western Michigan for a pair of matches this weekend.
