CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Toledo women's tennis team edged out Charleston Southern, 4-3, in Charleston, S.C. on Thursday.

"I'm so incredibly proud of this team for what they accomplished today," said head coach Tracy Mauntler. "They just had the biggest upset in program history and did it with five singles players. We'd had so much adversity this year with illnesses and injuries, but the players kept pushing and working every single day. They deserve this exciting win."

Charleston Southern swept the doubles point with strong wins on all three courts. Facing a 0-2 deficit with the loss of the doubles point and a default on the No. 6 singles court going into singles, the Rockets went to work in singles play.

With Toledo down 0-3, after a quick loss on the No. 5 court, sophomore Eileen Carney posted the Rockets' first point, defeating Michelle Schmitz 6-1, 6-1 on the No. 2 court. Senior Dee Dee Leenabanchong earned the next point from the No. 1 court, downing Tiffany Pyritz, 6-1, 6-2. Freshman Sloane Teske tied the score at 3-3 with a three-set win over Zoe Cauthen (4-6, 6-2, 6-2) on the No. 3 court. Junior Patricia Panta was the last Rocket on the court, in a three-set battle of her on against Liz Williams on the No. 4 court. Falling 3-6 in the first set, Panta bounced back to take the second 7-6. Down 0-2 in the third set, Panta won six of the following secen games to seal the Rockets' upset by going 6-3 in the final set.
