Toledo to Begin Stretch Run on Saturday at WMU

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo men's basketball team returns to action following Tuesday's bye with a trip to Kalamazoo, Mich. to face Western Michigan (11-15, 4-9 MAC) on Saturday, Feb. 22. Tip-off time is set for 2:00 p.m. in University Arena with streaming available on ESPN3.

        Toledo (12-14, 4-9 MAC) posted a 67-59 home victory over the Broncos in January and has won its last five meetings vs. WMU. Seniors Willie Jackson and Luke Knapke each posted double-doubles to lead the Rockets to a 46-29 cushion on the glass. Jackson tallied 12 points and a game-high 16 rebounds, while Knapke scored a team-high 14 points to go along with 10 boards. Also scoring in double digits were junior Spencer Littleson (12 pts.), junior Marreon Jackson (12 pts.) and redshirt freshman Keshaun Saunders (10 pts.).

        Marreon Jackson is leading Toledo in scoring and ranks second in the MAC with 19.4 ppg and 5.7 apg. Also appearing in the MAC's Top 10 in scoring for the Rockets is Knapke at 15.7 ppg (9th in MAC). Willie Jackson and Littleson are averaging 11.9 ppg and 10.5 ppg, respectively, with Jackson grabbing a MAC-high 11.9 rpg to rank third nationally.

        Western Michigan has dropped its last three decisions, including a 71-67 home setback to Akron on Tuesday. Junior Michael Flowers leads the Broncos offensively and ranks fifth in the MAC with 17.3 ppg. Junior Brandon Johnson is 11th in the conference with 15.2 ppg and ninth with 7.9 rpg.

   Toledo leads 86-63. Toledo has swept the season series vs. the Broncos each of the last two years. The Rockets' current five-game winning streak vs. WMU is their longest since a six-game unbeaten stretch from 2000-03.

POST TOUCHES
•  Marreon Jackson was named to the Lou Henson Award Mid-Season Watch list in January, an award presented to the top mid-major player in the nation. Jackson ranks among the Top Five in the MAC with 19.4 ppg (2nd), 5.7 apg (2nd), 3.0 3FGs/game (T-3rd) and a 1.8 assist/turnover ratio (5th). In league play, he is second with 21.9 ppg, 5.2 apg and 3.6 treys/game and fifth with an 85.5 FT% and a 40.2 three-point FG%.
•  Jackson has scored in double figures in a career-high 15 straight games.
•  Jackson's top four scoring outings of his career have all come on the road this season - 36 at Akron, 32 at Kent State, 31 at Bowling Green and 29 at Ohio.
•  Luke Knapke, who has been named MAC West Division Player of the Week and MAC Male Scholar Athlete twice this season, has scored in double digits in 24 of 26 games. The only two games he hasn't was when he was plagued by foul trouble in a seven-point effort at Kent State (Jan. 7) and in a nine-point showing vs. Miami (Feb. 11).
•  Knapke ranks second on the team with 15.7 ppg and 8.1 rpg to go along with a MAC-best 2.0 bpg and is the only player to rank in MAC's Top 10 in points, rebounds and blocks.
•  Willie Jackson leads the MAC and ranks third nationally with 11.9 rpg after ranking fourth in the MAC last year with 8.9 rpg. In league play, he is averaging 12.7 ppg and 11.6 rpg with a 53.2 FG%. He has led Toledo on the boards in 21 games, including a career-high tying 20 caroms at Notre Dame (Nov. 21).
•  Spencer Littleson has scored in double digits 12 times and ranks sixth in the MAC with a 39.8 three-point FG%.
•  Keshaun Saunders has started the last six games and is averaging 7.8 ppg in 30.5 mpg during this stretch. In league play, he is tied for sixth with a 40.0 three-point FG%.
•  Head Coach Tod Kowalczyk is in his 10th season at the Rockets' helm and has guided Toledo to four 20-win campaigns in the last six years, marking the first time for this accomplishment since Bob Nichols recorded five straight 20-win seasons from 1976-81.
•  The Rockets' 25 victories last year ranked second in school history. Toledo won a school-record 27 games under Coach Kowalczyk in the 2013-14 campaign.
•  The Rockets have registered 13-5 league marks in each of the last two years and their 72 MAC victories over the last six-plus seasons are tied for second in the league.
•  Toledo also is third in the MAC with 141 overall wins over the last six-plus years.
 
SOME TEAM STATISTICAL TIDBITS
•  Toledo committed a season-low four turnovers vs. Bowling Green (Jan. 25) and ranks second in the MAC with a 1.15 A/TO ratio. UT is first in league play with a 1.13 A/TO ratio.
•  Toledo has committed 12 or fewer turnovers in seven of its last 10 contests.
•  Two Rockets — Marreon Jackson (40.2/5th) and Keshaun Saunders (40.0/6th) — rank in the MAC's Top Six in three-point FG% in league play.
•  Toledo was 21-3 when outrebounding its opponent last year and is 9-4 this season.
•  UT was 21-1 last year when holding its opponent under a 45.0 FG% and is 10-6 this year.
•  Seven of the Rockets' losses in conference play have been by seven points or less. 

SOME INFO ON THE ROCKETS' OPPONENT
     The Broncos rank second in the MAC in league play with a field-goal percentage (44.6) but are eighth with a 43.7 FG% defense. WMU is also last in turnover margin (-3.77) and offensive rebounds per game (7.77).
 
ON THE HORIZON
      Toledo will visit Central Michigan on Tuesday, Feb. 25 before hosting Ball State on Saturday, Feb. 29. The Rockets will close out their conference season with a trip to Northern Illinois on Tuesday, March 3 before hosting Eastern Michigan on Friday, March 6.
