Rockets to Open Spring Season in Sunshine State

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo men's golf team opens its spring season this weekend with a trip to the Sunshine State to compete in the Florida Gators Invitational presented by Vystar. The Rockets will play 36 holes on Saturday, Feb. 15 and 18 holes on Sunday, Feb. 16 at the par-70, 6,701-yard Mark Bostick Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla.
"The spring season seems so far away when you end your fall season, and we're looking forward to going to the Gator Invite and competing again," Head Coach Jeff Roope said. "The entire team has been doing their best to prepare for a spring that has us traveling to some great sites to play some great teams."

Toledo will be facing a field that includes seven teams ranked in the Top 50 of Golfstat's rankings. No. 19 Vanderbilt is the tournament's defending champion with No. 26 North Florida, No. 29 Liberty, No. 31 Florida, No. 36 South Florida, No. 39 UCF and No. 47 West Virginia also competing.

Senior Nate Thomson is leading the Rockets with a 74.3 stroke average, just a shade in front of sophomore David Amm's 74.4 mark.. Joining Thomson and Amm in the lineup are senior Grant Godfrey, senior Rasmus Broholt Lind and sophomore Muhammed Afif Mohd Fathi.

• Fifteen schools are participating in the Florida Gators Invitational.
• The other 14 teams competing in the tournament will be Coastal Carolina, Florida, Georgia Southern, Jacksonville, Liberty, Mississippi State, Missouri, North Florida, Penn State, South Florida, UCF, Vanderbilt, West Virginia and Wichita State.

Following the Florida Gators Invitational, Toledo will head to the Lonestar State next week to compete in the Border Olympics on Feb. 24-25.
