MORGANTOWN, W. Va. - The Toledo women's tennis team opened their weekend in Morgantown, W. Va. with a 6-1 win over Towson on Saturday.

"I'm proud of how hard the women are playing this early in the season," said head coach Tracy Mauntler. "Playing with five is definitely tough, but these women haven't let it define them and they continue to grind for each other."

The Rockets opened play by taking the doubles point. Senior Dee Dee Leenabanchong/sophomore Eileen Carney swept their opponents, 6-0, on the No. 1 court and junior Patricia Panta/ freshman Sloane Teske defeated their opponents, 6-1, on the No. 2 court.

In singles action, Teske was the first Rocket to finish, defeating Phoebe Collins, 6-1, 6-0, on the No. 4 court. Leenabanchong defeated Themis Haliou, 6-3, 6-2, on the No. 1 court. With the team score at 3-0, Carney posted the Rocket's fourth point, defeating Amelia Lawson (6-1, 6-3) on the No. 2 court and Panta scored the fifth point with a 6-2, 7-6(5) win over Alexa Martinez on the No. 3 court. Freshman Laura Morera recorded the Rockets' sixth and final point with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Sarah Pospischill on the No. 5 court.
