TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo men's and women's cross country teams return to Bowling Green, Ohio on Saturday, Nov. 21 to compete at the 2020 MAC Championship Meet. The women's 6K will start at 2:00 p.m. with the men's 8K starting at 3:00 p.m.
Junior Semra Karaslan goes into the MAC Championships with high hopes for the Rocket women after taking first place at Central Michigan on Oct. 31. Karaslan also had a close second-place finish at the Falcon Invitational in Bowling Green on Nov. 7. Sophomore Emily Vining will be looking to make a move within the top five as well, as she finished third at CMU and fourth at Bowling Green. Junior Maya Hannagan and freshman Amanda Tremains also had outstanding performances in the Rocket's two meets this year and will be counted on to score at the MAC Meet.
On the men's side, freshman Ben Otis had a terrific debut performance as he was the first Rocket to cross the finish line at the Falcon Invitational on Nov. 7 with a time of 25:25.9. Sophomore Jake Rethman followed closely behind Otis with a time of 25.35.5. Sophomore Jacob Harris, last season's MAC Freshman of the Year, could also be a strong finisher for Toledo.
"We feel like we are in a really great place as a team and have had some terrific improvements up and down our roster this year," said Head Coach Andrea Grove-McDonough. "We are in a much stronger position this fall compared to last year and have a lot of depth. We have several athletes who on any given day could score in our top five. It's going to be a close competition, but if we run our own race and stay focused on the things that we can control we will be in contention, which is really exciting."
