Toledo Launches Indoor Season at Wolverine Invitational

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo women's track and field team is set to open its indoor season at Michigan's Wolverine Invitational on Saturday in Ann Arbor, Mich. Field events are scheduled to kick off at 11:00 a.m. and track events will start at 11:00 a.m with the women's 60m hurdles.Â
Â
"It's always interesting to compete right after your athletes come off an extended holiday break. It's actually a high-level meet for something this early," said first-year head coach Andrea Grove-McDonough. "I'm excited to get a feel for where our athletes are at and how their training over break went. We got really lucky with the weather this year in terms of our Midwest kids getting the quality runs in that they needed."
Â
The Rockets closed out the indoor portion of the 2018-19 season with a fourth-place team finish at the Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships. Returning for the Midnight Blue and Gold are a strong slate of seniors including Petronela Simiuc, Athena Welsh, and Stephanie Sherman for distance events, Kallie Strauss for throws, as well as Yana Khabina and Atalia Lima for sprints and jumps.Â
Â
The jumps category will also see back junior Janell Rowe and welcomes redshirt junior Raynesha Lewis to the lineup. Junior Chloee Kleespies and sophomore Lauren Johnson return for throws, sophomore Rayna Horner is back for the sprints category, and sophomore Holly Nation is set for the multi-events category.Â
