Toledo, Ohio - Seven Toledo women's soccer student-athletes are lined up to compete in the United Women's Soccer League (UWS) this summer. Betsy Lueck, Ashton Cassel, Rachelle Topolewski, Alex Troy, Lexa Bauer, Claire Cahalan and Anita Mancini will represent the Rockets while playing for clubs Detroit Sun FC and Michigan Legends FC.
 
Lueck, Cassel and Topolewski will compete for Detroit Sun FC while Troy, Bauer, Cahalan and Mancini will play for Michigan Legends FC.
 
"It is great to have so many of our players competing this summer in the United Women's Soccer League," head coach TJ Buchholz said. "This is the top tier summer league in our region and the experience will definitely help these players be well prepared for the fall season."
 
Based out of Detroit, Detroit Sun FC plays its games at Ultimate Soccer Arenas and is led by head coach Skipper Mukhtar. Michigan Legends FC is led by Kevin Oakley, is based out of Brighton, Mich., and plays at the Legacy Center. Both clubs play in the Midwest Conference of the UWS.
 
The UWS was formed late in 2015 and currently consists of 23 teams across the United States and Canada. The UWS formed under the belief that a dedicated tier two league was needed between the collegiate game and the professional & international game. The UWS works to fill that gap with a competitive summer season that helps collegiate players evolve and enhance their game for fall competition while giving the post-collegiate player a chance to further develop for the professional & international ranks.
