Toledo, Ohio - The Toledo men's tennis team held its postseason banquet on Thursday, April 25 to celebrate its graduating seniors and to cap its spring season. The Rockets distributed team postseason honors and saluted seniors Vince Anzalone, Juan Carranza, Omar Espinosa, Serjen Olmedo, Reid Teatsorth, and Luka Vitosevic. 
 
Toledo went 10-13 (3-4 MAC), notching sweeps over Wright State, UIC, and Ashland. The Rockets defeated Wayne State, Denison, and The Citadel, 6-1, and got away with 4-3 victories over Chicago State and Ball State. The season ended for the Rockets on Friday, April 19, when they were knocked from the Mid-American Conference Tournament by Ball State, 4-0. 
 
"These guys came back this year with sights set on proving themselves," said head coach Al Wermer. "Especially for our seniors, I think they vindicated themselves and left a legacy of resilience." 
 
Vitosevic garnered Toledo's Most Valuable Player and Brian Engel awards after leading the Rockets on the No. 1 court. Earlier this week, Vitosevic was named First-Team All-MAC in the postseason and tallied three MAC Singles Player of the Week nods during the regular season. The Belgrade, Serbia native went 10-9 (3-3 MAC) in dual match play. In doubles, Vitosevic went 8-8 (2-3 MAC) when paired with Espinosa on the No. 1 court.
 
Junior Danilo Vukotic was named Most Improved Player after going 8-12 (3-4 MAC) in dual match play on primarily the No. 2 court. Vukotic occasionally moved to the No. 1 court and went 2-1 at the No. 1 spot. In doubles play, the Nis, Serbia native went 8-11 (2-4 MAC) in doubles play on the No. 2 court, primarily paired with Anzalone.  
 
Freshman Cole Shoults earned the Rockets' Toughness Award and was named Newcomer of the Year, after going 3-2 (1-1 MAC) on the No. 6 court. Shoults was half of a dynamic duo on the doubles court with Carranza, going 8-7 (4-3) on the No. 3 court. 
 
The Brian Engel Award is selected by the coaches and Brian Engel, who was a great Rocket play of the Dynasty era. The award is based on the performance in tennis, academics, sportsmanship, leadership, and community service.
 
The Toughness Award is a new feature this year and is based on graphene, the world's most resilient material, which always returns to its original state. It is represented through a Toughness sticker reward program.
