Muncie, Ind. - The University of Toledo women's track and field team wrapped competition at the Ball State Challenge with 13 top-10 finishes, 20 personal-bests, and two MAC automatic qualifying marks. 
 
"We had a pretty good weekend at Ball State, with strong performances across event groups," said head coach Linh Nguyen. "The throwers always perform well here. That was true again this weekend, with the personal bests and top finishes, led by Katie Dewey, who had a very good shot-put result." 

Dewey opened competition Friday with a third-place finish in the discus event, posting a mark of 46.10m. Fellow senior Sally Frank and junior Kallie Strauss notched personal-bests in the hammer throw with marks of 44.98m and 44.70m, respectively. 
 
On Saturday, Dewey posted a MAC qualifying mark in the shot put, with a throw of 15.07m, taking second. Also landing in the top-10 in the shot put was Frank, who took sixth with a throw of 13.24m. Sophomore Janell Rowe posted a MAC qualifying mark in the triple jump, posting a third-place leap of 11.97m, a mere .02m from her personal best of 11.99m set at the Raleigh Relays in March. For the high jump, junior Atalia Lima recorded a mark of 1.60m, taking sixth. 

On the track, senior Nautica Hill posted a fifth-place finish in the 100 meters, clocking a time of 12.03. Junior Tori Thompson finished shortly after Hill with a time of 12.36, taking 14th. Thompson later led the Rockets in the 200 meters, clocking a personal-best 24.96, a mere .71 seconds from a MAC qualifying time. 

"We saw good marks in the sprints with Tori Thompson breaking 25 seconds in the 200 meters for the first time," Nguyen said. "Roma Lucarelli was the leader in the distance events with her debut in the 3K steeplechase for her first collegiate win."

In the 3000-meter steeplechase, the Rockets garnered two top-five finishes, with Lucarelli capturing first (11:19.63) and freshman Elisabeth LaPrad landing fifth (12:10.42). Of the 10 Rockets that competed in the 1500m, seven posted personal bests, with freshman Claire Steigerwald leading the way, taking 10th with a time of 4:41.62. 

"I think we're in a good place right now and ready for the meat of the season," said Nguyen. "We've got a lot of MAC qualifiers and are looking to keep adding more in the next few weeks."

The squad will be splitting next week for the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific in Azusa, Calif. from Wednesday to Friday and  RedHawk Rumble hosted by Miami (Ohio) in Oxford, Ohio on Saturday.
