TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's golf team will receive its final tuneup for the Mid-American Conference Championships when it travels to Columbus, Ohio this weekend to compete in Ohio State's Lady Buckeye Invitational. The tournament begins with 36 holes on Saturday, April 13 at the par-72, 6,319 yard OSU Golf Club Scarlet Course with the final 18 holes being played on Sunday, April 14. An 8:30 a.m. shotgun start will be held for each day of competition.
Â
"Ohio State's event will provide a good environment and prepare us mentally for next week's MAC Championship," Head Coach
Jenny Coluccio said. "We are focused on this week first though. Our greater focus lately has been on situational practice by creating different situations they will encounter and growing their abilities to problem solve and execute each time. We have also had a lot of fun with playing different skill games at practice. We're working on our mental games as much as our physical skills."
The Rockets will be competing against a strong 12-team field that includes No. 11 Kent State, No. 20 Michigan State, No. 30 Illinois, No. 53 Maryland, No. 56 Ohio State, No. 68 Michigan, No.88 Nebraska, No. 82 Rutgers, No. 98 Seton Hall and No. 106 Minnesota. The University of Indianapolis is also competing and is ranked No. 6 in the NCAA Division II rankings.
Â
Toledo is making its sixth straight appearance in Ohio State's spring tournament. Senior
Pinyada Kuvanun finished third in last year's event that was cut short to 36 holes. The Rockets' best finish during this stretch was seventh place in 2014 and 2016.
Â
"The Scarlet Course is a fun and challenging one to play," Coluccio said. "It requires solid strategy and the ability to stick to your strategy and resist the temptation to deviate from it."
Â
Kuvanun is leading the Rockets with a 72.9 stroke average with classmates
Pimchanok Kawil and Natcha Daengiem close behind with 74.5 and 75.3 marks, respectively. Junior
Saranlak Tumfong possesses a 76.9 stroke mark.
