EATONTON, Ga. – Sophomore Grant Godfrey's two-over par 74 paced the Toledo men's golf team in Sunday's final round at the Linger Longer Invitational. The Rockets finished in 15th place with a 54-hole total of 918 in a field that included five teams ranked in Golfstat's Top 25.
Godfrey led Toledo with three birdies today and tied for 58th place at nine-over par 225 (74-77-74) with senior Duncan McNeill (76-72-77).
Rounding out the Rocket lineup were sophomore Dylan Van Fossen (T-77th/73-78-82=233), freshman David Amm (T-82nd/76-79-83=238) and junior Rasmus Broholt Lind (85th/78-82-80).
"Our team is learning how to compete at an elite college level," Head Coach Jeff Roope said. "We are throwing this group of guys into the deep end where they are going to either sink or swim. It's not always going to be pretty and sometimes we're just hoping they'll figure out how to tread water. To get where we want to be we need players who aren't afraid to compete and aren't afraid to learn regardless of how many lumps they have to take."
No. 15 Georgia won the tournament with an impressive 19-under par 845 and was followed by No. 21 Liberty (851), No. 25 Louisville (854) and No. 24 Alabama (859).
The Rockets will return to action on Thursday-Saturday, March 28-30 with a trip to the West Coast for The Goodwin hosted by Stanford University.
