Toledo, Ohio – The University of Toledo women's tennis team defeated Oakland 4-3 at Twos Athletic Club in Toledo on Saturday.  The Rockets have now won five of their six matches at Twos this season.Â
Â
"I'm happy to get the win. Oakland is good. They've gotten better and better every year. I think what I'm most happy about just is the fight of this team," said head coach
Tracy Mauntler. "We lost the doubles point. It might be the fourth or fifth time we've lost the doubles point and come back and won the match."Â
Â
The Rockets dropped the doubles point despite senior
Thalita Rodrigues and freshman
Kiersten Carlson's hard-fought 7-5 win on the No. 2 court.Â
Â
UT bounced back in singles play, with Rodrigues completing a swift two-set sweep of Amanda Nilsson, going 6-0 in both sets at the No. 5 position. Senior
Kokoro Chishaki defended the No. 3 court, defeating Samantha Galloway after going to tiebreaks in both sets (7-6(5), 7-5). Freshman
Christina Fuller swept Alexandra Whall 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 4 spot. Fellow freshman
Eileen Carney clinched the match for the Rockets for the second time this season. Carney dropped the first set 3-6 to Darya Maltseva before firing up to take the second and third sets 6-2 each.
