Bloomington, Ind. - The Toledo softball team shuttered Saint Francis, 11-0, and fell to No. 19 Indiana, 9-6, today on day one of Indiana's Hoosier Classic. Sophomore pitcher
Erin Hunt recorded her fifth win of the year while senior
Kaitlyn Bergman and sophomore
Bekah Yenrick both homered against the Red Flash. All but one Rocket scored a run in game one as well.
Game 1
- UT controlled the game almost from the very beginning. The Midnight Blue and Gold jumped to an early lead in the second inning when Bergman homered with one on to make the score 2-0. In the bottom of the frame with Hunt in the circle, two strikeouts and a grounder to sophomore Kylie Norwood at shortstop set up a big Toledo third inning.
- Norwood opened the third frame with a double, then SFU walked senior Megan Choate to put two on. An error on the second baseman allowed senior Katie Cozy to reach first but also allowed enough time for Norwood and Choate to come home. Another error from the second baseman off a single from sophomore Brittney Davis put a runner on second and sent Cozy home to make things 5-0. Toledo closed out the third with a home run from Yenrick that scored two (5-0).
- Saint Francis went down quickly in the third and fourth but managed to strand two of UT's runners in the meantime.
- The Rockets scored their final runs in the top of the fifth thanks to junior Samantha Golden, Norwood, and Choate. An HBP and single put two on for UT before Golden stepped up to the plate. The Orlando, Fla. native made contact on the first pitch she saw and brought home one, and followed by stealing second. Norwood doubled to right center to bring the runners around, and a final double from Choate added the closing run before the game was called.
- Toledo racked up 11 runs on 11 hits, and 10 different UT batters scored at least one run.

Game 2
- Game two against the Hoosiers was a shootout from start to finish. Indiana put runs on the board in the first frame with a single to left that scored two. The Rockets answered in the second with three-straight singles from Golden, Choate and Cozy that put Toledo up 3-2. A single from the lefty hitter Norwood into right field brought in two more to put UT up 5-2.
- The third and fourth innings were all Indiana as the Hoosiers raked in runs off a sac bunt, a left-side single, a bases-loaded walk, and a double to left to take a 7-5 lead.
- IU added its final insurance runs in the fifth when a shallow grounder allowed one runner to reach home plate, and a solo homer gave the Hoosiers run number nine. Toledo fought back with one run in the sixth as Bergman brought home home Choate with a sacrifice fly but it wasn't enough as the Hoosiers kept UT off the board in the seventh.
