Rockets Heading to Notre Dame for Thursday Evening Matchup

SETTING THE SCENE
        The Toledo men's basketball team (3-1) travels to Notre Dame on Thursday, Nov. 21 with the championship of the Men Against Breast Cancer presented by FieldTurf tournament on the line. The contest will be televised on the ACC Network and tip off at 8:30 p.m.
        The Rockets have registered convincing victories over Marshall (96-70), Robert Morris (70-56) and Howard (112-68) since opening their season with a 79-77 setback at Valparaiso on Nov. 5.
        Toledo's most recent victory over Howard saw the Rockets score their most points in 26 years and also tally the second-most points in Savage Arena history. Junior Marreon Jackson led the way with his first double-double, tying his career high with 27 points, 10 assists and zero turnovers in 26 minutes. Senior Luke Knapke contributed 21 points and eight rebounds and became the 47th Rocket to reach the 1,000-point plateau for his career.
        Jackson leads Toledo offensively with 18.8 ppg and ranks fifth nationally with 8.0 apg. He is joined in double figures by junior Spencer Littleson (16.3 ppg), Knapke (15.8 ppg) and redshirt freshman Keshaun Saunders (13.0 ppg).
        Knapke ranks second on the team with 8.3 rpg, trailing senior Willie Jackson's MAC-best 10.5 rpg.

SERIES
Notre Dame leads 4-1. The Rockets' last meeting vs. the Fighting Irish was a 79-71 loss in the 1979 NCAA Sweet 16. Jim Swaney led UT with 26 points, while Kelly Tripucka topped Notre Dame with 24 points.
 
POST TOUCHES
•  The Rockets' three double digit wins this season give them 18 victories of 11 points or more since the start of the 2018-19 season.
•  Toledo ranks second in the nation with a 47.3 three-point field-goal percentage and is 17th with 10.8 three-pointers per game. The Rockets also rank 16th nationally with 88.8 ppg and 19th with a 51.7 field-goal percentage.
•  Junior Marreon Jackson was named to the Lou Henson Award Preseason Watch list earlier this month. The award is presented to the top mid-major player in the nation.
•  Jackson has scored a career-high 27 points on two occasions, the first in the Rockets' season opener at Valparaiso and the second in last Sunday's win over Howard.
•  Luke Knapke was named MAC West Division Co-Player of the Week on Monday after averaging a double-double last weekend with 18.0 ppg and 10.0 rpg to go along with 2.0 bpg. He is in second place on Toledo's all-time blocked shot list with 144 career blocks, 11 behind Nathan Boothe (2012-16).
•  Willie Jackson leads the MAC with 10.5 rpg after ranking fourth last year with 8.9 rpg. He registered nine double-doubles last year and led or shared the team lead in rebounding on 21 occasions. Jackson has led the Rockets in three of four games this season, including a career-high tying 16 boards vs. Robert Morris last Saturday.
•  Dylan Alderson tops the Rockets with a 60.0 field-goal mark and is also shooting 50.0 percent (3-of-6) from three-point range. He registered career highs in points (17) and rebounds (10) at Marshall (Nov. 10).
•  Keshaun Saunders is Toledo's Sixth Starter and has scored in double digits off the bench in three of his four games as a Rocket. He ranks fourth in team scoring with 13.0 ppg and leads the team with a 58.8 three-point FG% (10-of-17) and a 100.0 FT% (10-of-10). He has scored a season-high 18 points on two occasions, at Valparaiso (Nov. 5) and vs. Robert Morris (Nov. 16).
•  Six Rockets scored in double digits in Toledo's 96-70 win at Marshall (Nov. 10).
•  Toledo knocked down 14 three-point field goals vs. the Thundering Herd, a total that is tied for third in program history and three shy of the school record.
•  Toledo has connected for 14 treys in a game on nine occasions during Coach Kowalczyk's tenure, including eight times since the start of the 2017-18 campaign.
•  Head Coach Tod Kowalczyk is in his 10th season at the Rockets' helm and has guided Toledo to four 20-win campaigns in the last six years, marking the first time for this accomplishment since Bob Nichols recorded five straight 20-win seasons from 1976-81.
 
ON THE HORIZON
     Toledo will return home for a matchup vs. NAIA foe Northwestern Ohio on Saturday, Nov. 23. The Rockets will then be idle for a week prior to hosting Oakland on Saturday, Nov. 30.
