TOLEDO, Ohio — The Toledo women's golf team travels north early next week to compete in Central Michigan's Chippewa Invitational in Birmingham, Mich. The 36-hole tournament will be held at the par-72, 5,994-yard Birmingham Country Club on Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 21-22. The first day of competition will begin at 10:00 a.m. with tee times off the No. 1 and No. 10 holes. The second day will commence with a 10:00 a.m. shotgun start.
Â
"We are looking forward to playing at Birmingham Country Club as it is a wonderful venue and a great way to finish the fall!" Head Coach Jenny Coluccio said. "This event is different than our previous tournaments since we're playing just two rounds instead of three. Our key this week will be to continue to focus on our placement on the greens and honing in on making putts."
Senior Saranlak Tumfong leads the Rockets with a 74.4 stroke average. Freshman Amelia Lee ranks second on the team with a 79.2 scoring mark.
Coluccio said her team has worked hard this fall on all facets of their game and will look to finish strong.
Â
"We have improved the most in our golf swings and long game and that's been our main focus so far this fall," Coluccio said. "The one area we can tighten up and see our biggest return on investment is making our putts inside 10 feet. If we can do that, I believe we can have some success."
THE FIELD
• The Rockets will be competing against Mid-American Conference schools Central Michigan and Western Michigan – as well as Bradley, Chicago State, Detroit Mercy, Ferris State, Grand Valley State, Mount St. Mary's, Niagara, Oakland, Purdue Fort Wayne and Stonehill.
